Marsh, Roger

In this powerful and imaginative passacaglia, Marsh's command of formal structure is combined with a mastery of colour and texture. Its inspiration came from his collaboration with the actor Heathcote Williams in a CD recording of Dante's Inferno. From its sombre opening the piece develops inexorably to a thrilling, full-blown waltz with more than a hint of Ravel.
