McAlister, Clark

Originally commissioned by the musicians of the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra in Russia, This Is the Day draws on material from McAlister's earlier epic for wind orchestra, "Pascha". All the material has been extracted from elements of the Russian Orthodox liturgy and has been forged into a single movement in three continuous sections which have enormous sweep and power. This passionate committed celebration of Russia's Easter is a wonderful addition to the repertoire and suitable for both community and professional bands alike.
